The Coronation of Poppea

Third Year Project
(2021)

Undertaking research of fashion from 1655 to 1665, this dress was created in this style while also taking influence from Art Nouveau work.

The bodice features a custom design and handprinted pattern, with an embroidered flower design across the front. Handmade piping matches the headpiece with reverse applique circles adorning the shoulders. The sleeves were constructed to mimic the draping seen in Mucha's artwork as well as creating a more natural shape like a tulip. The historical use of the cartridge pleating at the head of the sleeve helped to create the volume.
